The spring market will grace Dresden’s Altmarkt

On April 26, 2025 from 12:00 noon, the traditional erection of the maypole by Dresden's carpenters will take place on Dresden's Altmarkt. 34 dancers will be twirling around the maypole to officially commence Dresden’s spring market. In addition to everything happening on stage and the spring dance by TUD’s folklore dance ensemble "Thea Maass," there will be informal dances for the audience to get involved in too. Spring is finally here!

75th anniversary of Dresden’s University Choir

Dresden’s University Choir will feature Johann Sebastian Bach's "Magnificat" and the symphonic cantata "Lobgesang" [Hymn of Praise] by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, two joyful works for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra. On June 29, 2025, these two distinguished songs of praise from the history of music will be performed at the Kulturpalast Dresden by Dresden’s University Choir in celebration of its 75th anniversary.

"S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Showing" presents exemplary works by Johanna Bruckner, Carolyn Kirschner and Theda Nilsson-Eicke, who are each completing 13-month artistic research residencies at TUD as part of the S+T+ARTS Ec(h)o Residency. The works on display question the potential and challenges of digital transformation, making way for critical, speculative and analytical perspectives on its microscopic and macroscopic effects.

UNI AIR 2025

On June 4, 2025 the Student Union (Studentenwerk) Dresden and Dresden’s student clubs are organizing the student music competition UNI AIR on the green behind the HSZ. We are looking for the musical newcomers of the year and we need the audience’s help to decide. The audience chooses their favorites from the musical acts and stands them in good stead of winning one of the Student Union's sponsorship prizes. Before the final decision is made by the audience at the award ceremony, a surprise band will get everyone hyped up for the big finale.

Dresden’s Club Crawl

On May 20, 2025, the student clubs in Dresden will team up to put on the best student night of the year: twelve concerts and parties, all at twelve locations with an insane selection of drinks - but not at an insane price. Buses have been organized to ferry everyone from one venue to the next, meaning that everyone can concentrate on having an amazing night. Tickets are available in advance (see website for details) for EUR 10 and on the day of the event - for early starters from 7 pm for EUR12.

Getting up to speed on sustainability in the summer semester

There will be a number of sustainability courses to get involved in this semester. "SustainAbility - Understanding and implementing sustainability" provides an essential introduction to the topic. The lecture "Air for life - interdisciplinary perspectives in cooperation with DRESDEN-concept" shows the multi-faceted significance of air in science, society and the environment. The environmental lecture series focuses on such topics as the fair use of raw materials and greenwashing.

2025 Sustainability Week: Call for campaigns and events

The fourth Sustainability Week at TUD is right around the corner. It will run from June 16 to 20, 2025. During this time, members of TUD will be designing an exciting program in cooperation with the city of Dresden- one that is both ecologically, socially and economically sustainable. Last year, everyone had the chance to network at numerous events, enjoy sustainable breakfasts and develop visions for the future of our campus.
In order to put together a varied program this year, we would like to call on all interested parties and groups to get involved in the Sustainability Week with their own stand, or even with an activity or workshop.

Sustainability skills in teaching - pilot semester comes to an end and what happens next

In the winter semester 2024/25, the ESD working group and the Environment Commission initiated a pilot project to implement sustainability skills. The experiences garnered will be presented and discussed in two events for interested parties: on May 16, 2025, the coordinating institutions (Green Office, ZiLL & ZLSB) will present their results in an online forum.

TUD will present the Diversity-Sensitive Teaching Award in 2025 as well. The award recognizes lecturers and concepts that promote diversity and create an inclusive learning environment. Open call: Queer Science Panel enters its fourth round

After the successful kick-off at the end of 2024, the Women@DDc network invites women professors to the next joint breakfast on March 26, 2025 at the GenussManuFaktur. This exclusive networking event offers women professors from the DRESDEN-concept research alliance a platform to share ideas and best practices while promoting interdisciplinary cooperation. Women Leading in Academia – application phase has started

Strengthening leadership skills, exchanging ideas and networking – the ten-month TUD program invites women professors (W2, W3 and W1 advanced tenure-track process) to continue their personal development. Efficient leadership in science, strategic networking and communication in challenging situations are just some of the topics that are explored in workshops and expanded upon in individual coaching sessions. Applications for the 2025/26 program are possible until April 29, 2025.

Knowledge shapes perseverance- Talk with Holocaust survivor Renate Aris

On May 20, 2025 at 6 pm, the Complaints Office will host another discussion with Renate Aris, the last Holocaust survivor in Dresden - this time with an English translation. Her visit in November 2024 moved many people. The talk will be accompanied by a number of other events organized in cooperation with the Jewish Alliance of Central Germany and Keshet e. V. They create space and opportunities for discussion on important topics, such as anti-Semitism and solidarity-based action.

Panel discussion “Syria in Transition - Challenges and Perspectives”

On May 5, 2025 at 6:30 pm, the Chair of International Politics and the Center for International Studies will host a panel discussion on Syria. Experts from politics, science and the Syrian diaspora will discuss the situation in the country as well as the role of the international community, especially Germany. The event will be an opportunity to share analyses, perspectives and engage in open discussion. We warmly invite anyone interested to attend and find out more, join in the dialog and discover new perspectives. The event is supported by “TUD in Dialogue.”

A different take on history lessons

In March, students in grades 9 and 11 immersed themselves in the history of TUD and Victor Klemperer's life. The author Dr. Renatus Deckert read from Victor Klemperer's diaries. Klemperer taught as Professor of Romance Studies at TUD before he was dismissed in 1935 due to his Jewish roots. His diaries describe the reality of Jewish persecution under the Nazi regime and are indispensable historical documents. The reading was accompanied by a lecture by Dr. Hagen Schönrich (coordinator of the project "TH Dresden under National Socialism"), who provided information on the role of academia under National Socialism.

High blood pressure – the invisible danger

One in six employees suffers from high blood pressure. However, one third of them are unaware of it. Years of untreated high blood pressure increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, kidney and other organ damage. Regular measurements can detect elevated levels and allow for early treatment. In addition to medication, a low-salt diet with lots of vegetables, avoiding alcohol and nicotine, normalizing one's weight, and regular exercise and relaxation can all be beneficial. The Occupational Health Services provide blood pressure measurements and occupational health consultations for all employees.
