The Bauindustrieverband Ost e.V. (Construction Industry Association East) has once again honored four outstanding final theses in the fields of civil engineering and architecture with the "East German Construction Industry Award" this year. The award has been presented since 2004 and serves as a strong signal for the promotion of young academic talent in the construction sector.

Students from TU Dresden have won the design competition to reimagine Dresden’s heavily trafficked St. Petersburger Straße, standing out among 25 submissions from three universities. Their concept skillfully balances high-quality public spaces with new urban development. The designs were developed in close collaboration with the City of Dresden, aiming to transform the street into a livable urban space with strong citizen participation.

Researchers from the Chair of Geodetic Earth System Research have played a key role in a comprehensive, freely available dataset on crustal displacement in Antarctica, published in the journal Earth System Science Data. Using GNSS signals, they are uncovering insights into plate tectonics, earthquakes, and glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA).

On May 22, 2025, Prof. Dr. Andreas Roloff, Senior Professor of Tree Biology and long-time director of the Institute of Forest Botany and Forest Zoology at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, was awarded the Honorary Medal of TU Dresden.
The university recognizes his outstanding contributions to forest science, his leadership in developing the Forest Botanical Garden in Tharandt, and his tireless efforts in environmental education and tree conservation.

For his many years of outstanding service at the Institute of Building Climatology (IBK), Dipl.-Ing. Dirk Weiß has been awarded the TU Dresden Badge of Merit. As a technical expert and dedicated colleague, he has significantly contributed to the development of sustainable energy concepts and the smooth operation of research and teaching infrastructure at the Faculty of Architecture.

This is one of the key findings of the research project "Long-Lasting Real Estate (LoLaRE): Requirements for Sustainable Buildings with Long Service Lives", conducted by the Institute of Construction Management under the direction of Prof. Jens Otto. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB), the project was part of the Future of Construction Innovation Program (Zukunft Bau). The recently published report is the first to analyze statistical data on building demolitions in Germany from 2007 to 2021.

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vowinckel, Chair of Transport Processes in Hydro Systems, has been awarded the 24^th Arthur Thomas Ippen Award by the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) for his pioneering work in sediment transport and multiphase flow dynamics. On June 26, he will deliver the Ippen Lecture at the IAHR World Congress 2025 in Singapore, highlighting grain-scale processes and their role in shaping future hydraulic modeling.

Dr. Mariana Erasmus from the University of the Free State (UFS) in South Africa conducted research as a Dresden Senior Fellow at TU Dresden, focusing on antibiotic resistance in aquatic environments, and initiating new collaborations for future environmental research.

Representatives of TUD, Dr. André Lindner, Maike Heitkamp-Mai und Claudia Seiler, engaged with international experts from academia, government, industry, civil society, and students. In addition to presenting the university’s comprehensive educational portfolio, research initiatives, and institutional sustainability strategy, the exhibition booth served as a dynamic forum for dialog on sustainable education, research collaborations, and strategic partnerships.
Particular interest was shown in TUD’s broad range of internationally oriented, English-language Master’s programs, as well as its doctoral and postgraduate offerings. Furthermore, TUD highlighted its latest collaboration with the United Nations University—the establishment of the UNU Hub on Climate Resilience and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) in Dresden in close partnership with UNU-FLORES.
