Business as a school subject - Faculty of Business and Economics offers exciting insights

The Faculty of Economics supports secondary schools in implementing the school-specific profile “Entrepreneurial Education,” which has been available since this school year. At the invitation of the State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB), 25 teachers from Dresden and the surrounding area gathered at TU Dresden on August 27, 2025, to learn about this innovative opportunity. The event focused on the presentation of the new “Entrepreneurial Education” curriculum by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture and a practical example from the Chair of Business Education and Management Training.

Valentin Lindlacher and Daniel Vrankar at the 8th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Economic Sciences

From August 25 to 30, 2025, Valentin Lindlacher (Junior Professorship of Economics, esp. International Economic Policy) and Daniel Vrankar (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology) took part in the 8th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Economic Scienceswith over 19 Nobel Prize winners in economics. Participants included luminaries such as Douglas W. Diamond, Joshua D. Angrist, Jean Tirole and Joseph E. Stiglitz.

30th Anniversary of the Safety Technology Conference

This year's Safety Technology Conference of the Chair of Railway Signalling and Transport Safety Technology was a special occasion, marking the 30th event in this long-standing series. In his speech, Dr. Ulrich Maschek referred to this anniversary and looked back on the past as well as ahead to the future. Moderated by Prof. Trinckauf, this year's symposium focused on (LST) planning regulations – a topic that had already been the subject of intense discussion the previous year.

Kurt Beyer Prize awarded for outstanding graduation work

On September 12, 2025, the Kurt Beyer Prize was awarded at TU Dresden. Since 1996, this prize has been awarded annually for outstanding final theses by students and young academics in the fields of civil engineering and architecture. The current Kurt Beyer Prize was awarded to Dr.-Ing. Josiane Herfort from the Faculty of Civil Engineering for her dissertation "Stability sensitivity of thin-walled structures made of carbon-reinforced concrete" and to Dipl.-Ing. Christopher Ehlers, Faculty of Architecture and Landscape, for his thesis " RUDOLFBAND Revival of the Berlin Mix".

Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the ceremony honoring STEM-friendly schools in Saxony

Together with the TU Dresden School Liaison Office, the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences presented itself at the education fair and introduced introductory offers for school students. The education fair provided an opportunity to talk to school administrators, teachers, and students, to provide information about the courses offered, and to raise awareness of the topic of mobility and transport among this important target group. The national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!” (Creating a Future with STEM) aims to get students excited about STEM and to motivate, promote, and recognize schools in the STEM field.

Honoring STEM-friendly schools in Saxony.

Saxon MINT schools honored

On 2 September 2025, Minister of State Conrad Clemens - represented by State Secretary Kühner - honoured 37 Saxon schools in Dresden for their outstanding commitment to mathematics, IT, natural sciences, technology (STEM) and digitalization. 23 schools were honored as "STEM-friendly schools" and 14 schools as "digital schools". Among the schools honored is the Semper-Oberschule, a cooperation school of the TUD. As a regional partner of the education initiative "MINT Zukunft schaffen!", TU Dresden was actively involved in honoring the schools at HTW Dresden.

Alumnus of the month September 2025

Kevin-Christian Garzon Galindo consistently pursued his dream of flying. He studied Transport Engineering and spent a lot of time in the flight simulator. He studied Transport Engineering and spent a lot of time in the flight simulator. Today, he is an enthusiastic researcher and works at NASA on the future of aerospace. There, he is working on a new airspace management system in the stratosphere, at an altitude of 18 to 20 km.

Conversation with alumna Dr. Antje Zehm

Antje Zehm's decision to pursue this degree program was largely influenced by her interest in interdisciplinarity. The “Waste Management and Contaminated Sites” program offered precisely the diversity that fascinated her. In addition, one thing was always important to her: she wanted to study something that addressed environmental protection issues. Looking back, it was a decision she has never regretted. The immense spectrum of topics from various scientific disciplines that still characterizes waste management studies today was both challenging and impressive.

From dunes to digital twins: TU Dresden and ABCD-Centre with research, transfer and cooperation in Chennai

The TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the ABCD-Centre - Global Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (ABCD-Centre) presented their expertise and research results in the field of ocean engineering at the 7th International Conference on Ocean Engineering(ICOE 2025) in Madras, India. TUD was represented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Stamm and Dr. André Lindner. On September 16, 2025, Prof. Stamm gave a keynote speech entitled "Dunes for Coastal Protection - A Management Strategy for Dynamic Nature-Based Solutions under the Influence of Climate Change." The speech opened a multi-faceted series of presentations ranging from the blue economy fisheries sector in Chennai to offshore jacket construction, coral reef assessment and microplastic pollution. In addition, the ABCD-Centre, in which TUD is one of five project partners, presented its joint work and achievements at an exhibition stand.

TUD's Indo-German cooperation work continued after the conference. An important meeting took place on September 17, 2025 with Consul General Michael Hasper at the German Consulate in Chennai.

Forward-looking discussions were also held with Prof. Raghunathan Rengasamy and others with regard to the joint further development of the transCampus strategy with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Chennai.

From TU Dresden to São Paulo: TU know-how shapes the sustainable development of Brazilian favelas

How can urban green spaces be used for sustainable urban development? The Brazilian urban planner Alexandra Aguiar Pedro addressed this question during her stay at the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management (CIPSEM) at TU Dresden in 2018. As part of her final thesis, she examined approaches to urban garden projects in Dresden - including the intercultural garden "Golgi Park" in Hellerau - and evaluated their transferability to the Brazilian context. BBC journalist Lottie Watters recently dedicated an article to the project.

Funding program Internationalization | Best practice projects of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering

As part of the “TUD 2028 – Synergy and beyond” excellence strategy, the funding program Internationalization is a measure within the EXU focus area COLLABORATION. Between 2020 and August 2025, 185 projects by TU members from all areas were funded. They demonstrate how internationalization can be experienced in many different ways – e.g., through summer schools and international conferences or through projects to establish and expand research collaborations worldwide.

The following examples from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering represent a selection of particularly successful and innovative projects that were realized with the support of the Funding Program Internationalization.

International Forestry Field School 2024: Teak Plantation Management in Thailand

Second German-Korean Workshop on Computational Mechanics

From August 25 to 27, 2025, the Institute of Structural Analysis , Faculty of Civil Engineering, hosted the “2nd German-Korean Workshop on Computational Mechanics.” The aim was to strengthen scientific and friendly relations between all participants. This was achieved through 21 technical presentations, a poster session, and discussions about the scientific program.

EUTOPIA Summer School in Göteborg

As part of the European university network EUTOPIA, the summer school “Sustainable Cities – Infrastructure Systems and Collaboration” took place in Gothenburg from August 25 to 29, 2025. A total of 40 students took part in the international program. The Faculty of Business and Economics was also well represented with 14 students. Prof. Schefczyk and Prof. Möst accompanied the summer school and contributed valuable insights into research and teaching.

Transportation students from Beijing Jiaotong University visit the faculty

At the end of August 2025, the Chairs of Railway Track Engineering and Railway Signalling and Transport Safety Technology of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences welcomed twenty students from the School of Traffic and Transportation at Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). The guests were welcomed by the faculty management and professors. During their varied study trip to Dresden and the surrounding area, they took part in a diverse program of lectures, laboratory tours, and excursions.

Fresh entrepreneurial spirit for Lusatia: TUD|excite puts patents into practice

The International TUD|excite Summer School brings together science and business – right in the heart of the structural change region of Lusatia. Under the motto “Patents in Search of New Business,” participants in Hoyerswerda develop new ideas and start-up concepts for attractive patents. International scientists work closely and interdisciplinarily with regional players such as the Lausitz Technology Center (LAUTECH).
