Dr. Hannes Schlieter appointed Adjunct Professor for Digital Health

We warmly congratulate Dr. Hannes Schlieter on his appointment as Adjunct Professor of Business Information Systems, esp. Digital Health, at TUD. Hannes Schlieter has been leading the Digital Health Research Group since 2021. After successfully completing his habilitation in the summer of 2024, he and the research group team can now continue their successful work with a new title.

Hendrik Scharf awarded the Theodor Wessels Prize

Hendrik Scharf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics) has been awarded the Theodor Wessels Prize for his article How do different hydrogen and emission allowance price scenarios shape the cost-effective energy transition in Germany's process industries?. The prize is endowed with a total of 10,000 Euro. Hendrik Scharf took second place with his contribution.

Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum appointed as new member of the Saxon Standards Control Council

The Saxon Cabinet has approved the appointment of Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum as a new member of the Saxon Regulatory Control Council. The Saxon Regulatory Control Council has been examining the compliance costs of new regulations presented by the ministries in particular since 2016 and regularly submits proposals for reducing bureaucracy and improving legislation.

Angeklopft bei...: More than 30 portraits of professors, staff, and students

In January 2025, we released the first video in the “Angeklopft bei...” format. In the meantime, more than 30 videos are available online and can be viewed on the faculty's Instagram and YouTube channels. For the latest edition, Johanna Grillmeyer and Tobias Gerlach knocked on the door of Prof. Dr. Alexander Kemnitz. He holds the Chair of Economics, in particular Economic Policy and Economic Research, and was the driving force behind the establishment of the social media channels in his role as Dean of Studies at the time.

Alexander Blume about his research stay in Shanghai

Alexander Blume, research associate and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management, spent the period from mid-September to mid-December 2025 as a visiting scholar at the School of Economics and Management (SEM) at Tongji University in Shanghai. In this interview, he talks about how the stay came about, what he experienced in China, and what experiences he is bringing back with him to Dresden.

Akshay Singh Yadav: Team member in the SOffie project

Akshay Singh Yadav has been a research associate at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics, since December 1, 2025, where he will primarily be involved in the “System Integration of Offshore Wind Energy” (SOffie) project. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in Computational Modeling in Energy Economics. He completed his master's thesis on the joint planning of offshore generation and transmission infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region.

Sophie Jacobs: Research fellow at the Boysen-TUD Graduate School

Since November 1, 2025, Sophie Jacobs has been a member of the Boysen-TU Dresden Graduate College and a research associate  at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics. She holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on computer-aided simulation methods and has successfully defended her master's thesis in Laser Physics at the TUD. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics.

This year's International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) took place in Nashville, USA, from December 14 to 17, 2025. ICIS is the leading international conference in the field of business information systems and brings together thousands of researchers from around the world every year. Prof. Lars Hornuf at the European Commission's Annual Research Conference with Nobel Prize winner Philippe Aghion

At the beginning of December, Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf had the honor of presenting his research on regulatory competition in the age of AI at the European Commission's Annual Research Conference in Brussels. This year's keynote speech was given by Philippe Aghion, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Business and Economics. The keynote speech was followed by a presentation by Prof. Hornuf, which is also available as a video.

On December 14, 2025, Kulondwa Safari (Chair of Business Administration, esp. First place at the OR/MS Tomorrow Mini Poster Competition 2025 for Niklas Wolfrum

We congratulate Niklas Wolfrum on winning first place at the OR/MS Tomorrow Mini Poster Competition 2025. As part of his diploma thesis at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Statement on discounts on data charges for qualification work

The Scientific Advisory Board (WBK) of the Research Data Centers of the Federal and State Statistical Offices (FDZ) of the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS), of which Prof. Dr. Kamila Cygan-Rehm is a member, has published a statement on discounts on data fees for qualification work. Strengthening telemedicine, improving stroke care: TeleStrokeRGM to launch in 2026

On January 1, 2026, the TeleStrokeRGM project, funded by the G-BA Innovation Fund, was launched, with the Digital Health Research Group participating. The goal over the next three years is to develop a scientifically based maturity model for the systematic evaluation of the performance of acute care networks, which are necessary in the event of a stroke in order to save lives.

New third-party funded project at the DZ BANK Foundation: Personalized customer advice through agent-based AI

A new research project launched by the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology, is investigating how the use of modern AI technologies affects the interaction between banks and customers, particularly with regard to regionally based institutions. Against the backdrop of digital structural change, the project analyzes which factors influence acceptance of and trust in automated advisory processes.

The Organization and Management Group (OMG) was successfully relaunched in October and brings together an active community of 8 to 14 participants per session. When national climate policy leads to the relocation of CO2 emissions: Publication on carbon leakage in the Journal of International Economics

The paper Unilateral Environmental Policy and Offshoring, co-authored by Simon Bolz (Chair of Economics, esp. Economic Policy and Economic Research), Philipp Richter, and Fabrice Naumann and published in the Journal of International Economics, examines how an increase in taxes on CO₂ emissions in one country affects global total emissions, income, and inequality. To this end, the authors develop a general equilibrium model with heterogeneous firms and offshoring.

How stakeholder involvement influences EFRAG's standard-setting process for sustainability reporting – New publication in SEAJ

In her article Initial Evidence on Stakeholder Participation in EFRAG's Sustainability Reporting Standard-Setting Process, published in the Social and Environmental Accountability Journal, Alessandra Kulik (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Auditing and Taxation) examines stakeholder participation in the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) standard-setting process for sustainability reporting. The article analyzes the comments received on the first 13 draft papers of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

Article in Studies in Higher Education examines why students in STEM subjects remain loyal to their degree program despite setbacks

Prof. Dr. Stefan Razinskas (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Organization and Management) has published an article in the journal Studies in Higher Education together with co-authors from LMU Munich. The article, entitled Keeping STEM in the game: Resilience, setbacks, and the development of commitment, uses data from a longitudinal study of 234 students at German universities to examine why students in STEM subjects remain loyal to their degree programs despite setbacks.

New publication on the game-theoretical analysis of government intervention in hydrogen supply chains

Green hydrogen plays a central role in the energy transition, but is not yet competitive. The article Government Interventions in a Hydrogen Supply Chain: a Bi-criteria, Game-theoretic Approach, published in the Schmalenbach Journal of Business Research by Dr. Maria Beranek and Prof. Dr. Udo Buscher (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management), examines three government instruments to strengthen the position of green hydrogen: taxes on gray hydrogen, subsidies for green hydrogen retailers, and support for capacity expansion.

From August 24-18 in Dresden: EUTOPIA Summer School AI in Business and Health Care

Student exchange with Shanghai University confirmed

From November 2 to 9, 2025, Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf was a guest at the School of Economics at Shanghai University. He used his stay to sign a cooperation agreement between the School of Economics at Shanghai University and the faculty. The partnership will initially run for five years and is intended to promote student exchanges in particular.

Easy Business™ at school: Cooperation project to promote entrepreneurial education at Dresden-Tolkewitz Gymnasium

On December 16–17, 2025, bachelor's students studying Business Education and Management Training taught eighth-grade students in the “Entrepreneurship” profile class at Dresden-Tolkewitz Gymnasium as part of the “Business Education in Practice” seminar. The Easy Business™ business simulation game was used in the lessons. The students took on the roles of entrepreneurs at ShokoDream GmbH and learned about the value creation process of a manufacturing company.

Christian von Olshausen: Founder and CTO of sunfire

Christian von Olshausen studied Industrial Engineering and Management at TUD and founded a start-up in 2010 that has since become a pioneer in the electrolysis and hydrogen industry. As Technical Director of Sunfire, he is responsible for numerous technological innovations in synthetic fuels and green hydrogen. His studies in innovation management and start-up challenges at TUD were particularly valuable to him in the early years of the company.

International researchers gathered at the 19th ifo Dresden Workshop on Political Economics from November 28 to 29, 2025, to discuss current economic policy issues. The keynote speeches were given by Sascha O. Becker (Warwick/Monash) and Ruben Enikolopov (Pompeu Fabra). The workshop was jointly organized by Prof. Christian Leßmann, Prof. Gunther Markwardt, and Prof. Niklas Potrafke.

From November 26 to 27, 2025, leading economists and political scientists met at the Harnack House in Berlin to discuss how geopolitical competition is changing trade, sanctions, and global security. From the trade war between the US and China to the vulnerabilities of undersea cables, the workshop, organized by the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance and Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum, shed light on the complex interrelationships between markets, sanctions, and infrastructure.
