Our Alumnus of the month is an expert in electrical engineering. Dr. Stefan Rothe's doctorate focused on lightwave programming and now conducts research at Yale University.

Transfer hub “6G-life²” enters the next funding phase

With the start of the second funding phase of the "6G-life²" project, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and TUD Dresden University of Technology are strengthening their leading roles in the development of future communication technologies. Interdisciplinary teams are developing concepts and technical solutions for the sixth generation of mobile communications, which is expected to launch commercially in 2030. The current project phase of the "6G-life²" transfer hub will run until December 2029.

An idea to promote STEM talent blossomed into an association – Network Energy Talents e. V. was founded

Science and the energy industry are searching for talents to drive forward the energy transition. To achieve this, the Network Energy Talents (NET) initiative is entering its next phase: From the shared vision of inspiring young people to engage with scientific topics and recruiting them as future specialists who will shape the energy transition, a non-profit association has now emerged. Seven partners from industry and academia across Germany founded Network Energy Talents e. V. on January 13, 2026.

ERC funding for two technologies on the way for industrial use

The development of sustainable renewable energy technologies is crucial given the increasing global energy demand. Yana Vaynzof, Chair of Emerging Electronics at TUD Dresden University of Technology, Director at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW) and speaker of the new Cluster of Excellence REC², is working on emerging photovoltaic technologies based on metal halide perovskites, that are promising crystalline semiconductor materials. Her team focuses in particular on the key challenges that prevent the industrialization of this new material system.

BeING Inside project week celebrates anniversary

This spring, the interdisciplinary project week of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering started its 10th round. This year's practice partner is SachsenEnergie AG.

Registration for the tryING 2026 trial study program has started

From August 3 to September 18, 2026, the tryING trial study program for women and girls will open the doors to the world of engineering at TUD. On campus, there will be the opportunity to experience everyday university life up close, discover laboratories and get active in workshops.

News from the School of Engineering Sciences

Prof. Daniel Neuen has held the Chair of Algorithmic and Structural Graph Theory since January 1, 2026. He completed his master's degree in computer science in 2015 at RWTH Aachen University, where he received his doctorate in 2019 on the topic of "The Power of Algorithmic Approaches to the Graph Isomorphism Problem". In 2020, he began working as a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken and moved to the CISPA - Helmholtz Center for Information Security in the same year. In April 2022, he moved to Burnaby, Canada for one year, where he continued his research work at the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. From 2023-2024, he was a Interim Professor at the University of Bremen.
