Election of Prof. Gerhard Fettweis to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Prof. Gerhard P. Fettweis, holder of the Vodafone Chair of Mobile Communications Systems at TU Dresden, has been elected a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific institutions in Germany.

This prize is awarded annually as part of the International Symposium on Physical Design (ISPD) and recognizes exceptional contributions to research in the field of design automation of electronic assemblies.

BeING Inside project week celebrates its anniversary and starts its 10th edition

On Monday, March 23, 2026, the interdisciplinary project week BeING Inside of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering will start its 10th round. This year, 35 students and 36 pupils from STEM schools will be working on a task set by practice partner SachsenEnergie AG. This year, the project week will also receive administrative support from the MINT-EC.

New Certificate program Microelectron­ics Engineering launched

The semiconductor industry is developing rapidly - new technologies, more complex manufacturing processes and innovative chip designs are constantly placing new demands on specialists. With the Microelectronic Engineering certificate program of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, TU Dresden offers a unique opportunity to develop, update or deepen sound skills in one of the most important future fields in a targeted manner from the summer semester 2026.
In the welcome event for participants in the certificate program, the structure and options of the program will be presented in detail and questions about the program will be answered.

On February 6, 2026, the final event of the joint DIGITECHNETZ project took place at Kraftwerk Mitte together with the Chair of Electrical Power Supply at TU Dresden, SachsenNetze GmbH and Robotron Datenbanken-Software GmbH, among others. Prof. Dr. Angela Rösen-Wolff, Vice-Rector Research and Technology Transfer, among others, gave an appreciative welcome address.

Smart microelectron­ics for medicine: Dresden-based innovation network SEMECO secures funding for a second phase

The innovation network SEMECO (Secure Medical Microsystems and Communications) will receive up to EUR 15M in funding for another three years as part of the Clusters4Future initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Building on the successes of the first funding phase, SEMECO is focusing on the concept of medical semiconductors as a key technology.

           

TR@NSFER-ING - Online survey of academic staff in the School of Engineering Sciences

The TR@NSFER-ING project is conducting an online survey in the School of Engineering Sciences to systematically record transfer activities and collaborations with partners from science and practice. The aim is to gain a better understanding of how knowledge and technology transfer is currently implemented, what attitudes and motivations are associated with it and how cooperation, communication and support can be structured in a more targeted manner in the future.

Saxon Industry Association honors Dr Rakesh Nair with the Richard Hartmann Award

Dr Rakesh Nair from the Institute of Applied Physics at Dresden University of Technology has been awarded the Richard Hartmann Prize by the Saxon Industry Association 1828 e.V. for his pioneering work on the development of sustainable, biodegradable electronics based on natural lignocellulose structures. The award ceremony took place during a festive event on the Industry & Science Day on 23 February 2026 at Infineon Technologies Dresden AG & Co. KG.
