Prof. Dr. Susanne Strahringer receives AIS Leadership Team Award

In a virtual ceremony on January 19, 2026, Prof. Dr. Susanne Strahringer (Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Information Systems in Industry and Trade) was presented with the AIS Leadership Team Award by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). The award recognizes the exceptional dedication of individuals to advancing the mission and values of the association.

New DFG project: "Beyond Headcounts: Rethinking Corporate Diversity and Inclusion"

The Chair of Business Administration, in particular Management Accounting and Control, is very delighted that the German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved their research project "Beyond Headcounts: Rethinking Corporate Diversity and Inclusion" for funding. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Peter Schäfer and Dr. Philipp Richter and will run for 36 months. Among others, the project is using machine learning and text analytics to develop a new measure of diversity and inclusion that goes beyond demographic characteristics - based on employee evaluations and corporate communications.

20 years ENERDAY International Conference on Energy Economics and Technology

With this year's ENERDAY – the 20th International Conference on Energy Economics and Technology – the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Energy Economics celebrated the 20th anniversary of the conference and looked back on the history of one of the first international energy economics conferences in Germany. Under the title "Celebrating 20 Years of ENERDAY: Two Decades of International Research, Innovation, and Progress on the Path to Climate Neutrality" just over 100 participants from academia and industry gathered on March 27, 2026, in the lecture hall centre of TU Dresden to reflect on two decades of energy research and look ahead to the next 20 years.

On March 18, we said goodbye to Johanna Grillmeyer. For 3.5 years, she worked in the Dean's Office alongside her studies, contributing her heart, creativity, and dedication to the faculty’s public relations efforts and, above all, significantly advancing the faculty’s social media activities.

Welcome to the Faculty: Rebecca Scheel

Since February 15, the Digital Health Research Group has welcomed Rebecca Scheel as a new research associate. Rebecca Scheel will be working on the MiHUB (Medical Informatics Hub) project, where she will be able to draw on her experience from her thesis on patient pathways and the needs of patients and medical staff.

60 Years of Short School Years: Prof. Dr. Kamila Cygan-Rehm in an interview with WELT

On April 1, 1966, the first so-called “short school year” began in most of the West German federal states, followed by a second one from December 1966 to July 1967. For millions of students, this meant one thing above all: less class time. Cancelled classes remain a concern today. The short school years offer a rare historical case from which we can learn about the potential long-term consequences of lost instructional time. Prof. Cygan-Rehm has studied this topic for several years using large administrative datasets and she recently spoke with WELT about her findings.

Participation of Vilja Lange in the Journal of Management Studies Professional Development Workshop in Cambridge

Vilja Lange, a doctoral student at the Chair of Sustainability Management and Assessment, had the privilege of attending the Journal of Management Studies PDW at Churchill College, University of Cambridge in March. At this event organized by the Journal of Management Studies, she had the opportunity to meet with five editors of the journal to talk about submissions, the review process and academic careers.

Start of the third-party funded project MUst on probabilistic flow-based domain for the European electricity market

Starting April 1, 2026, a new three-year research project will be carried out at the Chair of Energy Economics at TU Dresden, focusing on the further development of Flow-Based Market Coupling (FBMC) in Europe. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and conducted in collaboration with Fraunhofer IWU and the industry partners 50Hertz and Return on Data.

New third-party funded project MonKWP: Monitoring municipal heat planning in Germany

The new research project MonKWP, in which the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Energy Economics is involved, is developing tools for systemic monitoring of the heating transition. Together with the Institute for Energy Economics and the Rational Use of Energy (IER) at the University of Stuttgart and the DVGW Research Unit at the Engler-Bunte Institute (DVGW-EBI) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the complex interactions between heat, electricity, gas and hydrogen networks at municipal and national level are being analyzed using coupled energy system modelling and sectoral infrastructure models.

ExplAIn-TrAIn-Plan Workshop in Dresden

As part of the ExplAIn-TrAIn-Plan project, the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Industrial Management welcomed their project partners from the University of Vienna, dwh GmbH, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, and ÖBB in Dresden. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the current status of the project and to further develop key questions related to rolling stock scheduling for trains of different vehicle classes.

DIGITECHNETZ project celebrates final event at Kraftwerk Mitte

On February 6, 2026, the final event of the joint DIGITECHNETZ project took place at Kraftwerk Mitte together with the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Energy Economics, the Chair of Electrical Power Supply at TU Dresden, SachsenNetze GmbH and Robotron Datenbanken-Software GmbH, among others. Over the course of three and a half years, a modular digital service platform was developed to support the operation of low-voltage grids.

The Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology publishes an article on activity-based offices

Dr. Ann Sophie Lauterbach (Chair of Business Administration, in particular Organization and Management) together with Randi H. Borge (National Institute of Occupational Health, Oslo, Norway), has published an article in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. The study, titled “How is your new office? A meta-analytic review of activity-based offices' theoretical foundations and empirical outcomes,” provides a comprehensive synthesis of research on activity-based offices (ABOs).

An article published in the German Journal of Human Resource Management examines how female executives build resilience

The article „Rising against the odds: Key lessons for promoting female leaders’ resilience“ authored by Dr. Ianina Scheuch (Chair of Business Education and Management Training) in collaboration with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Charlotte Förster (TU Chemnitz) and Dr. Stephanie Duchek (Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO) examines how women in leadership positions build resilience.

Stocks? Safe! The Future of Stock Markets: ARTE documentary with Wiwi students

How widespread is the use of AI in the stock market today, and what does the future hold? Clara-Sophie Grassel is a student in Business Administration and Economics at the faculty and she is a member of IG Börse e.V. She is also part of an ARTE documentary filmed in Dresden and at TU Dresden, which explores the significant impact AI has already had on the stock market and how students are already investing while relying on AI for support.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Dr. Russell McKenna of ETH Zurich on his selection as Distinguished Research Fellow for 2026! As part of a collaboration with the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Industrial Management, Johann Jacobi von Wangelin spent a week at King’s College London working with Prof. Dr. Rym M’Hallah. At its meeting on 25.03.2026, the Faculty Board appointed Prof. Dr. Udo Buscher as the new Dean of Studies for Industrial Engineering and Management. He will take over from Prof. Dr. Rainer Lasch, who has held the position since 2006, on 01.04.2026.

Consultation hours on the upcoming compulsory transfer to the new study documents for the winter semester 2026/27

From April 21 until the end of the semester, weekly consultation hours will be offered on the upcoming mandatory conversion to the new study documents for the winter semester 2026/27. The consultation hours serve to clarify open questions about the mandatory conversion transfer and to provide students with the best possible support when transferring.

New course offering with EUTOPIA label in the summer semester

The Chair of Business Education and Management Training will offer the course "Current Challenges in Personnel Development" in German and English in the summer semester 2026. The English-language course is integrated into the EUTOPIA European University Alliance - Connected Community on Sustainable Wellbeing of People and Planet. Students can acquire an additional qualification on the topic in the form of EUTOPIA micro-credentials and participate in the preparation of a research-based workshop with NOVA University in Lisbon.

Expedition Campus: School classes visit the faculty

In the first quarter of the new year, we again welcomed several school classes to workshops and project weeks at the faculty. For example, in the last week of March, 11th-grade classes from high schools in Thuringia attended the workshops led by Prof. Dr. Alexander Kemnitz and Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann. In late February, Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann also hosted seventh-grade students from the Martin-Andersen-Nexö High School for an entire week to work on the project “Elections and Data: Analyzing the AfD’s Election Results with Statistics.”

Prof. Dr. Uwe Wieland appointed to the DFKI Supervisory Board

Prof. Dr. Uwe Wieland, alumnus and Senior Director of Software Product Development & AI-driven Solutions at Volkswagen, has been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The DFKI has been conducting research on artificial intelligence for people for more than 35 years and is regarded as one of the most important "Centers of Excellence" in the international scientific community.

Dr. Sebastian Oelrich appointed as Associate Professor at Aarhus University

Dr. Sebastian Oelrich has been serving as an associate professor of accounting in the Department of Management at the University of Aarhus since April 1, 2026. From 2022 to 2024, Sebastian Oelrich worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Business Administration, specializing in Management Accounting and Controlling. In April 2024, he moved to Aarhus to take up an Assistant Professor position and can now celebrate the successful completion of his tenure evaluation.
